Membership Categories
MTAS offers several membership options based on your qualifications and professional status.
Practicing Member
$430.00
Graduates of a 2,200-hour massage therapy program. To qualify for full Practicing Membership, applicants must:
- Graduate from a minimum 2,200-hour massage therapy program from a recognized school
- Submit a current (within 6 months) criminal record check including a vulnerable sector search
- Provide CPR Level C and Standard First Aid certification
- Pass the Member Qualifying Examination (MQE)
- Submit proof of liability insurance ($2 million minimum)

Non-Practicing Member
$215.00
Members who wish to remain part of MTAS but are not currently practicing.
Therapists who are not currently practicing but want to maintain their MTAS membership can apply for Non-Practicing Membership.

- Limited access to member benefits
- Continuing Education (CEU) requirements adjusted
Student Member
Free
Enrolled in a minimum 2,200-hour massage therapy diploma program.
MTAS offers free membership to students enrolled in an approved 2,200-hour massage therapy program.
- No liability insurance required
- Not eligible for an MTAS registration number
- Access to professional development and networking opportunities

- Completed Student Membership Application Form
- Proof of current enrollment in a recognized program
Reinstatement
$230 + Membership Fee
Therapists returning to practice after a membership lapse can apply for reinstatement.If absent for 5 years or less:
- Pay a $230 reinstatement fee
- Provide proof of liability insurance
- Submit updated CPR/First Aid certification
If absent for more than 5 years:
- Must retake and pass the MQE
- Provide continuing education records
- Pay applicable fees`

The full application process, including document review and scheduling the MQE, takes approximately 2-4 weeks.
No, if you are a member in good standing with a College of Massage Therapy in a regulated province. Instead, submit a Letter of Good Standing and proof of education.
Yes, applicants must submit credentials for review and pay a $50 + GST fee. Additional competency assessments may be required.
